Engineers Without Borders Australia and Walgett Shire Council Partner to Secure Safe Water for Walgett Communities.
The two organisations have formalised a long-term commitment to improving water access and supporting local skills in Walgett, New South Wales.
WALGETT, NEW SOUTH WALES, 7th of April 2026 — Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) and Walgett Shire Council have signed an agreement committing both organisations to work together on improving water access and building local skills across the Walgett Shire.
This agreement is built on a shared understanding: lasting change happens when communities lead the way. EWB brings engineering expertise; the Council brings deep knowledge of what Walgett needs. Together, they will work alongside residents to find solutions that fit. For EWB, the partnership deepens a commitment to working with First Nations communities across Australia — listening first, then designing together.
“Under the agreement, EWB will work with the Council on a range of practical projects in Walgett. This includes designing and building water systems that last; training local staff so the Council can maintain them over time; trialling new ways to improve water access across the Shire; strengthening climate and disaster resilience so communities can withstand future challenges; and working towards long-term solutions that serve every community in the region.”
Mihir Joshi, Senior Manager, First Nations Programme, EWB Australia
