Background

The NSW Regionof Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is committed to EWB’s mission to provide everyone with the engineering knowledge and resources required to live a life of opportunity free from poverty. We provide meaningful volunteering opportunities and coordinate activities on a regional scale for university students, professionals and employees of our corporate partners. We work directly with communities in NSWand support EWB’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program and International Programs. We also provide EWB members with opportunities to grow and learn about working with communities, development practice and leadership.

EWB Local Partnership with SkillMe Project

The Local Partnerships Program facilitates meaningful and lasting change for disadvantagedcommunities in Australia by addressing issues relating to lack of access to engineering services and resources. EWB achieves this by developing long term partnerships with local Australian community organisations based on mutual trust and respect. In NSW, EWB is engaged in a partnership with Sydney  community organisation  Metro Assistin 2018 and have been working together for 1 year. The organisation offers multiple services includingemployment support programs such as SkillMEproject. The SkillMe project works with jobseekers from  migrant  and  refugee  backgrounds. One  of  SkillME’s  programs  is  the  Skilled  Migrant Employment Preparation Program, an eight-week-week job preparation program for highly-skilled clients. Many engineers and IT professionals join this program. The  partnership  aims  to  work  collaboratively  with  the  organisation  to  improve  employment outcomes  for  engineer  and  IT  migrants  who  face  significant  difficulties  entering  into  the  Sydney engineering and IT job market.

Role Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and committed volunteer to assist in co-managing EWB’s partnership with MetroAssist. You will be working alongside the current partnership managerand staff from MetroAssistto support and develop collaborative projects within the long term partnership.You will also be working closely with the Local Partnership NSW Co-ordinator and the National Local Partnerships knowledge hub to further develop EWB’s Local Partnership strategy.
