Applications close 31st May 2018

The Buddy is the crucial link between EWB's overseas field volunteers and the knowledge hubs, chapters, alumni and other support in Australia. Buddies support EWB's international program from Australia and are in turn supported by the buddy coordination team and local chapter.
Buddy recruitment typically runs in March and October, however we are always looking for exressions of interest and if interested, you may be able to assist with coordination tasks and roles in the meantime.
We are searching for proactive, bright and adaptable volunteers with a passion for international development to work closely with the buddy team and key stakeholders in your region to achieve the following:
  • Better knowledge flow between the field volunteer and the wider EWB membership.
  • Greater opportunities for EWB members to remotely contribute to the international program.
  • Continuous improvement of the buddy program.
The buddy program is an excellent way to gain insight into community development. Our volunteers often find that the most challenging aspect of a placement isn't the technical work. Rather, it's understanding cultural context, working in remote locations, managing stakeholders and addressing complex situations with integrity.
As a buddy you will be able to support and learn alongside your volunteer. Getting involved with the Buddy Program is an excellent opportunity for anyone aspiring to go on placement themselves, or for experienced professionals who may have undertaken a placement or worked in Australia on projects with a strong community and stakeholder engagement focus.
As a buddy, you will be responsible for:
  • Assisting your field volunteer in communicating with EWB membership through presentations, social media, the EWB website, and other activities.
  • Acting as a support for the field volunteer, offering feedback and resources.
  • Connecting their in-country volunteer and potential Australian based project team(s) with technical assistance & EWB Knowledge Hubs, acting as a liaison and moderator. You may directly assist where your interests are relevant.
  • Assisting with project, partnership and program level strategy and planning.
