Allowances These professional placements are voluntary, however an allowance is provided to support a modest but comfortable standard of living covering general day-to-day expenses and accommodation. Other costs such as Pre-Departure Training, airfares, insurance, language lessons and visas are also covered.

Assessment & Criteria As part of the assessment process, Intake 20 Field Professionals are required to participate in five-days of Pre-Departure Training (PDT) in June (date tbc) and be available to mobilise in early-mid July (exact date tbc). 
It is important to note that these positions are only open to Australian and New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and are also subject to funding approval. We are only able to confirm the placement after successful completion of PDT.

EWB Field Team in Timor-Leste


WASH Program Quality Mentor

Partner Organisation: WaterAid Timor-Leste
Location: Dili, regular travel to Liquica district
Duration: 13 months with option to extend

WaterAid is an international NGO dedicated to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest communities. Since 2005 WaterAid in Timor-Leste has been implementing rural community WASH programs in Liquiça and Manufahi Districts in partnership with 4 local NGOs. WaterAid works closely with the local and national government agencies to assist them with the ongoing provision of WASH services to communities. Use your water systems design and project management skills to support and strengthen the capacity of WaterAid staff, local partner organisations and community members in community water supply and sanitation planning, design, management and community based water safety planning.

Assist WaterAid Timor-Leste in the development, training and implementation of newly developed initiatives as a part program effectiveness unit support to the district program teams and partners. The EWB placement will also contribute to innovative technology development along with other team members.

WASH Field Support Mentor (remote placement)

Partner Organisation: Plan International Timor-Leste

Location: Aileu 

Duration: 13 months with option to extend

Plan is an international development organisation operating in 50 countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote and protect the rights of children and lift millions of children out of poverty. Plan Timor-Leste has worked in Timor-Leste since 2001 in three Districts: Dili, Aileu and Lautem.  Support Plan Timor-Leste and its local partners to provide sustainable clean water and sanitation solutions to poor rural communities. 

This position works to strengthen the capacity of Plan staff, local partner organisations in Aileu district and community members in community water supply and sanitation planning, design and management.

WASH Technical Mentor
Partner Organisation: RainWater Cambodia

Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia 

Duration: 13 months with option to extend


RWC is a leading organisation in appropriate and innovative WASH infrastructure design and development.

This capacity building role will support RWC technical staff to improve designs of water supply, particularly rainwater harvesting, and low-cost sanitation products for rural communities. You will contribute to strengthening RWC’s institutional capacity, including in documenting RWC’s expertise in WASH and education.

70% of this role will be focused on capacity building on project management, tech skills and supporting RWC to implement strategic plan, 30% Tech development support for Sanitation in Challenging  Environments (SCE) or other relevant EWB WASH initiatives.

Project Facilitator and Technical Mentor - Sanitation in Challenging Environments (SCE)
Partner Organisation: EWB Australia
Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Duration: 13 months with option to extend

A quarter of Cambodia’s population live in more challenging geographical and environmental conditions such as regions prone to flooding, ground water contamination and hard rock areas, where conventional sanitation designs have proven unsuccessful. Sanitation solutions in Challenging Environments (SCE) has been identified as a niche area of need in the WASH sector.

This role will lead and facilitate EWB's SCE initiative to promote knowledge sharing, mobilise sector actors and build capacity of implementing partners to drive innovation and improve the effectiveness WASH programs to reach all communities.  You will be focused on project coordination, sector engagement and developing knowledge resources.
