The organisation

We are building a global movement of humanitarian engineering to help create a richer, safer and healthier society.

We educate, inspire and engage engineers to connect with a meaningful purpose and responsibility to the world in which they live and work and to embrace opportunity to apply engineering leadership to humanity’s challenges.

EWB is a growing, dynamic membership-based organisation with a bold vision and a passionate team of staff, volunteers and collaborators creating sustainable social value through humanitarian engineering. Our Engineering a Better World 2020 Strategy outlines the outcomes we seek to achieve through our work:

  • Aim 1 - solutions for social change: we will enable appropriate solutions to alleviate poverty and accelerate inclusive, sustainable development through engineering and technology
  • Aim 2 - redefining engineering: we will redefine engineering as a community-centred profession that provides leadership in the creation of a more sustainable and inclusive world
  • Aim 3 - a global movement: we will inspire and mobilise a global community in engineering for social change.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria are essential for the role:

  • An empowering and collaborative leader, underpinned by high emotional intelligence
  • Proven ability to lead innovation and change in organisations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with staff, stakeholders and governing bodies such as boards to lead and execute organisational strategy and plans.
  • Experience relevant to managing a small organisation including the Key Accountabilities outlined in the position description, in particular financial performance, risk management, and governance.
  • Commitment to the values, mission, culture and strategic aims and objectives outlined in the Engineering a Better World 2020 Strategy.


Other information

Flexibility to travel interstate and internationally will be required.
