Engineers Without Borders Australia is delighted our founder and former CEO, Danny Almagor, has been recognized for his services to the not-for-profit sector with an Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honors list.

Danny founded EWB in . He was inspired to create a framework for engineers, students and organisations to become involved in meaningful community development through engineering. The following year, he received a Churchill Fellowship to travel overseas, conduct research and meet other EWB organisations around the world.

In-addition to establishing EWB, Danny was also the inaugural Social Entrepreneur in Residence at RMIT, chairperson of Jewish Aid Australia, served on the wisdom council for Hub Melbourne and founded Small Giants, an umbrella organisation that fosters socially and environmentally responsible businesses.

He is one of recipients of awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia who have been recognised for their contributions. He was previously recognized with the Ernst & Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year and an Australian Leadership Award.

Through Small Giants, Danny has continued to support EWB which is now part of a community of like-minded organisations and companies working to create positive social change. 

The Impact Investment Group, one of Small Giants’ group of companies, recently purchased the Lonely Planet building in Footscray. The building is currently being set up as The Dream Factory, a co-working space for organisations focused on using technology for social change. EWB is the foundation tenant for The Dream Factory.
