EWB Australia announces Peter Baynard-Smith as new CEO.

Phil Clark, EWB Board Chair said that Peter had the right expertise to lead EWB Australia, but importantly also shares the values of the organisation.

“Peter’s previous experience and passion for community development resonate highly with the values and mission of EWB Australia. His began his career as a volunteer in Tanzania, a journey well understood and respected by our community. We warmly welcome him to EWB Australia and look forward to seeing how his leadership will shape our impact in the years to come.”

Passionate about international NGO strategy, Peter recognises that organisations must embrace strategies that enable them to be adaptive and entrepreneurial in their approach, providing them the ability to respond to a rapidly changing development landscape.

With over years of international development experience, Peter moves to EWB Australia from World Vision Australia where he led technical specialist teams in economic development, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), health, food security, gender and child protection, and research and evaluation capabilities.

&#;I am thrilled to be taking up the challenge and privilege of leading EWB Australia at an important time in the organisation&#;s journey. EWB Australia serves a unique and vital role in harnessing and connecting the Australian engineering sector with opportunities for development, innovation, entrepreneurship, learning, and leadership development.”

“EWB Australia as an organisation has made a tangible and visible impact in the lives of communities across Australia and in the Asia Pacific region, and I think it is well placed to further mobilise and contribute solutions to some of the world’s pressing social and environmental challenges.”

Peter began his career as an engineering volunteer in Tanzania, and recognises the role technology and engineering can play in sustainable community development and in meeting the needs and aspirations of poor and marginalised communities worldwide.

He is a member of ACFID&#;s Development Practice Committee, and has spent a number of years serving as Board Director at Habitat for Humanity Australia.
