Partner Description
NEWAH (Nepal Water for Health) aims to create substantial positive changes in the lives of Nepali communities in need by improving access to and management of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). EWB is embarking on a partnership with NEWAH to achieve this by providing technical assistance to develop their WASH services, and the capacity of communities to manage their own WASH services.
The current EWB volunteer at NEWAH is building the capacity of NEWAH to incorporate Water Safety Planning into their project delivery cycle. In a broader context NEWAH and EWB are exploring the opportunities for further collaboration, research programs and becoming an influential voice at the policy and standards level for WASH in Nepal..
Project Background
This project will build on the lessons learned through the work of the current EWB volunteer in developing a pilot Water Safety Plan (WSP) in the Terrai region of Nepal. The role of the successful candidate will be to build on these experiences by developing a second WSP in the hill country context, working out of the Eastern Regional Office (ERO) located at Janapath Tole, Biratnagar.
While refining the WSP process, the candidate will build the capacity of NEWAH staff to develop future WSPs and NEWAHs organisational capacity in the area of risk management. The volunteer will primarily work with the technical project team but will engage with all NEWAH staff members in training and developing NEWAH’s overall project processes.
This position would be co-managed by NEWAH and WaterAID Nepal (one of NEWAH’s funding partners). Like all EWB volunteers, the candidate will not only be an ambassador for EWB, but will be responsible for managing the relationship with our partner and other potential partner organisations. A key component of this role will be will be to contribute to the establishment of collaborative research projects across the range of thematic areas that NEWAH engage in. This gives the volunteer an opportunity to take part in creating the future of EWB’s work with NEWAH and within Nepal.
