Joining EWB

EWB was formed based on a very simple idea - that engineers in Australia need the opportunity to volunteer their skills to facilitate meaningful and lasting change in developing communities. Join EWB today and support humanitarian engineering by becoming part of our community as a 'Member' or as a 'Friend' of EWB.

Benefits of being a 'Member'

Do you want to join a movement towards humanitarian engineering? By becoming a member of EWB, you have an opportunity to play an integral role in our organisation. EWB members are the heart and soul of our community and are passionate about the role they can play in engineering a better world. They give their time, leadership, skills and heart to EWB. This is an opportunity for you to volunteer your time on a regular basis and get involved in a range of opportunities that EWB has on offer.

Members can:

  • Volunteer directly with communities
  • Lead a Region or a Chapter
  • Lead or participate in an initiative in one of our regions
  • Organise and participate in events nationally and regionally
  • Undertake a research project organised by EWB
  • Attend National Council to collaborate on strategy and help shape our future.

The cost of the membership contributes to vital aspects of EWB, such as:

  • Insurance cover for our volunteers
  • The EWB National Council
  • Not-for-profit status
  • Maintaining financial solvency

Benefits of being a 'Friend'

Are you interested in EWB and keen to support the humanitarian engineering activities in your region? By becoming a Friend of EWB you have an opportunity to attend events, stay connected and help out where you can. Our Friends donate what they feel they should pay. The idea is that Friends of EWB donate as little or as much as they like knowing that their contribution, no matter how large or small, will make a big difference to EWB.

Friends can:

  • Volunteer with member organised community engagement activities
  • Attend national and regional events
  • Participate in initiatives in one of our regions
  • Help to organise and participate in events nationally and regionally

If you choose to contribute financially as a Monthly Donor, your donations will assist in providing resources that:

  • Support existing volunteers with logistics
  • Provide new opportunities for EWB to engineer a better world

1. You are shaping the strategy if you are (in alphabetical order) an Active Member, Board Member, Chapter Member, Region Member or Staff Member organising chapter, interest group, regional and national initiatives and/or attending strategic retreats, jams, national council and board meetings.

2. EWB uses long term partnerships with community groups to affect meaningful and lasting change. When there is community development and/or cross cultural training required to effectively work with a community or to contribute to the partnership long term, friends would be expected to become members.
