The Undergraduate Research Program focuses on six key research themes in line with EWB’s vision and mission.  Projects may address any number of these streams.

Streams

To complement EWB’s Working with Communities programs and ensure relevance with community based needs, there are six technical streams for the Program.

Stream 1: Water Supply and Sanitation (WatSan)

  • Water quantity management
  • Water quality management
  • Wastewater management (and solid waste management as an associated issue)
  • Sanitation (including hygiene and education)

Stream 2:  Energy Supply (particularly renewable systems)

  • Solar power / PV cells
  • Bio-diesel
  • Alternatives e.g. wind, methane collection

Stream 3: Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  • Internet connectivity / access
  • Network distribution
  • PC access and training (hardware and educational software)
  • Community radio

Stream 4: Disability

  • Prosthetics
  • Disability aids (infrastructure and equipment)
  • Inclusion / Accessibility
