SLSPO - Sri Lankan School of Prosthetics and Orthotics

Goal of the SLSPO is to become the National Training Centre for the education of Prosthetist - Orthotists. Students are taught how to prescribe, manufacture and fit artificial limbs and orthopaedic braces to International standards. The course consists of two years practical and academic training plus one year supervised clinical placement.

Learning about Teaching and Learning

I've been looking at ways to try and build the capacity of local teachers to teach themselves teaching and learning theory. Wow - that's a lot of "teaching" in one sentence! One of these ways has been to hold weekly workshops on teaching and learning with a few of the local staff (Cambodians, Swedes and Sri Lankans alike). The topic of today was "aligning objectives, activities and assessment".

SLSPO Students go on Field Trip

The representative at National PVC led our 18 students on a tour around the factory in Ragama on Friday. For many students it was their first time to a factory, and for all, it was a chance to enhance their friendships, learn deeply about materials science and thermoplastics in particular, and learn about how people live and work in Ragama and in factories.

Mechanics Motion Lab

In this activity Sri Lankan School of Prosthesics and Orthotics students got up close and personal with digital cameras to analyse the motion of the arm around the shoulder when bowling a cricket ball.
