In March 2007, Program Director of Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB/Aus) undertook a field visit to Nepal in order to re-establish the EWB/Aus Program after two years absence. The absence was caused by a challenging political and civil climate in Nepal, particularly in the region where EWB/Aus was intending on working. During the March field visit, Stewart met with the executive of Engineers Without Borders Nepal (EWB/N), including Liva Shrestha (International Relations Officer) and Pawan Shrestha (General Secretary). In meetings that followed, Stewart and Pawan agreed to consider collaboration between the two EWB organisations that would entail various forms of cooperation within Nepal and remotely from Australia. The purpose of the collaboration would be to enhance the effectiveness of the EWB/N Program in Nepal as well as offering opportunities to learn for EWB/Aus members to engage with their counterpart organisation.
