Computer Refurbishment
The PC Program's main aim is to provide computer equipment to disadvantaged members of the community. By receiving donations from academia, industry and individuals, refurbishing the equipment and distributing it out to the community we achieve a number of aims.
Donations of Computers to the PC Program
The PC Program is always looking for new sources of computers to refurbish. If you are a company replacing a lab, or an individual upgrading to a new computer, then the PC Program may benefit from your generous donation.
Due to space requirements and our ability to process e-waste, the computers and components we receive must meet a minimum set of specifications.
We gratefully accept the following items:
- Whole computer systems - Less than about 8 years old
- Processor 1Ghz or greater
- 256MB RAM or greater
- Hard Drive 10GB or greater
- CRT Monitors - 17 inch or greater
- LCD Monitors - 15 inch or greater
- IDE Hard Drives - 10GB or greater
- CD-ROMS
- Power Supplies
- Internal Dial-up Modems
- Keyboards
- Mice
It is important that all equipment we recieve is in clean, working condition. We cannot accept components that are broken or in a non-working condition. Whole computers that meet the above requirements but are in a non-working state can often be stripped for parts.
Data Security
To ensure the privacy of any left-over personal data, the hard drives in all computers we recieve are completely formatted and a new operating system installed.
Making a Donation
If you would like to make a donation to the PC Program, please email us
Electronics Recyclng
If you have computer equipment that is no longer functional, or does not meet our minimum requirements, then recycling is the best option. You can contact a commercial recycler, who either will pay you a small bonus for the parts or may charge you a fee, depending on the company and the item. See Recycling Near You to find recyclers in Brisbane.
Brisbane City Council Electronics Recycling
Brisbane City Council runs regular recycling days where you can drop off your used equipment at no cost to you. This is often the most convenient option, and highly recommended by the PC Program.
Check out the PC Program's Events, our Calendar or Electronic Waste - Brisbane City Council to find out about collection dates and the items that Council will accept.
Interested in receiving a computer for your clients?
We are always happy to develop new relationships with members of the community, and help them on their way with their IT needs. To help you decide whether your organisation or clients are eligible to recieve a computer from the PC Program there are a few simple questions to think about:
Do I or does my organisation provide direct support to refugees, indigenous peoples or other disadvantaged members of the community?
Are my clients who wish to recieve a computer or IT training from a multicultural, indigenous or otherwise disdvantaged background?
If so, we are happy to help! Please use the contact link on the PC Program main page or email us at pcprogramseq@gmail.com
