Ways to Get Involved With the PC Program!
Computer Refurbishment
If you're savvy with computers, can install an Operating System, fix computer issues or just want to learn how, then Computer Refurbishment is the job for you! Every few months, we will hold a refurbishing day at our storage space at Computer Troubleshooters Aspley, repair and refurbish as many computers as possible, and organise systems ready for delivery to our clients.
Tutoring*
We need committed volunteers who have a regular set of hours free each week to help tutor refugees and other clients at community centres in the local area (close to UQ and QUT). In a group setting, you will help clients develop skills in Resume writing, job hunting and other basic computers skills. No advanced skills necessary, just the computer skills you already have and a positive attitude!
* You will need to fill out an induction form, obtain a Blue Card, and complete a short cultural awareness training session. Please contact the team leader to obtain the relevant forms.
Fundraising/Awareness
If you're based at uni and only have a few hours a week, then volunteering with the fundraising and awareness team may be the job for you! Working with the Recruitment and Fundraising Co-ordinators you will be able to help plan and implement BBQ's, Information Sessions, flyer distributions and other fun activities!
Lesson Plan Development
We need committed volunteers to work with our community centre partners to develop lesson plans and activities for clients in tutoring sessions. If you're an aspiring teacher, good with words or graphic design then this may be a valuable experience for you! (It looks good on your Resume too)
Pickups and Deliveries*
If you have a car or a few hours free on weekends then computer pickups and deliveries may be the role for you! Working in pairs, you will pick up donated computers from locations in the Brisbane area and also set up computers for recipients; running through a short tutorial to allow them to get familiar with their new PC's.
