Building Construction

Context

Devikulam consists of a petty shop, several temples, and a primary school as seen in figure 5.1. The village consists of a small temple 3x5m, and the proposal of building another temple is waiting for funding in both the village and thoppu areas. The colony has a small temple constructed of concrete walls, and thatched roofing. This temple is attached to a more elaborate building behind it which is waiting for funding to install a roof.

One of the project topics for the EWB 2011 challenge is the design of new buildings for facilities recommended by Pitchandikulam Forest. This includes a design of a community hall where people can meet. This will improve morale and enhance the sense of community among the villagers. The community hall should also be able to be used for special events such as weddings. The design of a primary health care centre would also be beneficial for the wellbeing of the local community.
