Bia Hula Foundation

Bia Hula has worked in the western districts of Timor-Leste since 1993, fostering community development through:
- Water supply and sanitation schemes and facilitation of community planning and implementation processes;
- Extending basic hygiene, sanitation and environmental awareness; and
- Assisting in establishing and strengthening community organisations and developing small scale community activities such as savings and loan schemes and other income generating activities.

PhD Opportunity in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

The main study is a cluster-randomised trial asking whether adding a Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) process increases the effectiveness of a programme. The PhD candidate will be enrolled at the Nossal Institute for Global Health at the University of Melbourne.

Bia Hula completes WASH assessment at Agri. Training College

Bia Hula has completed the water, sanitation and hygiene rehabilitation assessment for the Maliana Agricultural Training College. Field volunteer Heidi Michael reports on the long (and bumpy!) road to complete the first steps in improving the living conditions at this college, which houses 500 students and teachers.
