Monash University Projects

Biodiesel Project

Aim: To produce 15,000L of biodiesel per annum; a quantity sufficient to fuel Monash University grounds and maintenance vehicles and improve the sustainability of Monash University. Potentially, to use the design as a model for similar projects at schools or communities in regional Australia or developing countries to educate and promote the use of alternative fuels. Currently the Monash student engineers are working on the design of the bioreactor, securing sponsorship funds and carrying out experiments on samples of oil acquired from campus kitchens. Kirilly and Amanda are project co-leaders and can be contacted on ewb.monash.biodiesel@hotmail.com

Monash Computer Co-operative (MCCO)

The MCCO is a student-run organisation that provides financially disadvantaged students access to computers at no cost. The volunteers are made up of students. Many of them already have technical/experience fixing computers however there are opportunities to learn how to refurbish computers from the experienced volunteers. We distribute newer computers to disadvantaged Monash students and we give out the older computers to community groups like Embrace Education and refugee programs.
We hold working bees monthly for casual volunteers. For the more experienced volunteers, they help out regularly when called upon.  Donated items come from the public, Monash staff and students. This ranges from small parts to whole computers.

Vincent Lieu is the project leader and you can contact him on mcco.ewb@gmail.com
