Interested In Starting A Chapter?
Anyone can start a chapter! The most common forms are university chapters and professional chapters. University chapters exist as a club on campus. Professional chapters are designed to support industry based engineers and anyone else who is interested in being involved with Engineers Without Borders and are generally geographically based. The essential ingredient is a group of people who share a passion for EWB and are committed to meeting and working together as a group.
The Chapter Resource Centre provides information on all aspects of EWB chapters, including day to day running, finances, programs and much more.
You may find that there is already a lot of support for Engineers Without Borders at your university, or in your area, but nobody has yet taken the initiative to start up a chapter.
The Chapter Coordinator in the national office can provide you with contact details for the other EWB members at your university.
To start a chapter you will need to fulfil some requirements to ensure acceptance by EWB, and in the case of a university chapter, by the Clubs & Societies or other administrative department at your university.
Typically, all you need to do is:
- Establish a committee and several interested members
- Hold an inaugural meeting to adopt an executive
- Adapt the EWB constitution to suit your chapter (university chapters only)
- Register with EWB Australia and, if appropriate, the university 'Clubs & Societies' department.
