John McKibbin- President

JohnJohn McKibbin is passionate about the two big challenges of ecological sustainability and international development- leading to his current double life at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures and Engineers Without Borders Australia. At ISF, John works as a research consultant where he assists developers, utilities, NGOs and governments with analysis to support cost-effective and sustainable urban infrastructure policy and planning. At EWB, John has continued his tenure as President of the NSW Chapter where he will focus on strengthening ties between our university chapters (e.g. USYD, UNSW, UTS), our regional neighbours (e.g. Wollongong and Newcastle), and our professional partners (e.g. Worley Parsons, ARUP, SKM, PB, GHD, AECOM, John Holland etc).


Jim Fraser- Regional Coordinator (Education) / Vice President

JimJim Fraser first became interested in development during travels throughout Asia and South America. In 2003 Jim was posted as an AYAD volunteer to the Philippines where he assisted in building the capacity of the local governments waste management. This started a new career path as a environmental educator then working with remote indigenous communities in Northern Territory and now working with Marrickville Councilin Sydney. Last year Jim was elected as Regional Coordinator (Education Hub), where he helped build the capacity of the High School Outreach program by joining the efforts of the university chapters. This year the focus will be on building the humanitarian engineering capacity among students and professionals across the region through a showcase Pathways to Development workshop in October. He will also assist the executive to consolidate our partnerships with schools, universities and professional organisations.


Darren Alvares - Regional Coordinator (Awareness)

Darren AlvaresDarren Alvares first joined EWB four years ago as an events and marketing coordinator with EWB New Zealand and has since developed a reputation for his meticulous yet effortless project management skills. When he's not volunteering with EWB Darren is undertaking doctoral research developing a novel polymeric biomimetic tactile “mechanosensor” to improve the dexterity of robots and prosthetics (go figure!). This year Darren is leading our Year of Humanitarian Engineering Campaign, a unique opportunity to activate, educate and celebrate the humanitarian engineering sector in partnership with Engineers Australia.



Jessica Kleinberg- Regional Coordinator (Energy Hub)

JessJessica Kleinberg first became actively involved in EWB as a volunteer with EWB’s partner in Tamil Nadu, India, where she investigated sustainable energy options for Uluru Children’s Home & Health Care Centre. Since returning to Sydney, Jess has worked as an electrical engineer with Energy Australia, where she has been assisting with a world-leading trial of smart grid technology. This year Jess was elected as the Regional Coordinator for the Energy Hub where she will focus on coordinating the team's energy-related initiatives and technical assistance partnerships while strengthening our growing community of energy professionals in our region.



Andrew McMillan- Regional Coordinator (WASH Hub)

Andrew McMillanAndrew McMillan first joined EWB as a field volunteer with Nepal Water for Health, where he was responsible for coordinating the Water Safety Planning Project- a holistic approach to drinking water supply involving hazard/risk assessment from catchment to consumer. Since returning to Australia, Andrew has returned to his work in water sensitive urban design with WorleyParsons. This year Andrew has stepped up as Regional Coordinator of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Hub, where he will coordinate our existing WASH-related technical support partnerships and local initiatives while consolidating our growing community of water professionals in our region.



Matthew Imhoff- Regional Coordinator (ICT Hub)

MattMatthew Imhoff works as a software engineer with CiSRA (the research and development arm of Canon) where he works on making printers work faster and better. A veteran EWB member, Matt has assisted with a diverse range of advocacy and educational programs initially in his home town of Brisbane and now in his new Sydney home. This year Matt was elected into the new position of Regional Coordinator (ICT Hub) where he will seek to build on our knowledge hub network by establishing a new community of ICT professionals in the region.



Angela Rozali- Regional Coordinator (Indigenous Hub)

Angela RozaliAngela Rozali studied chemical engineering at the Universty of NSW and is now working as a research engineer in AECOM's buildings and applied research and sustainability team. Having been involved in anti-racism and environmental activism with indigenous communities for a number of years, Angie now wants to strive for an indigenous focus in the engineering profession as well as developing strong relationships between our indigenous partners and EWB.



Jonathan Ho- Treasurer

Jonathan HoJonathan Ho works as an environmental engineer with Parsons Brinckerhoff- a global planning, environment and infrastructure firm and EWB partner- where he works on a range of environmental assessment and remediation projects. Over the past two years Jon has volunteered his time to manage the Tonle Sap Floating Toilet Project from Sydney. This year Jonathon was elected as the new Treasurer where he will keep track of chapter finances and try to creatively stretch the budget on worthwhile causes.



Chalotte Wesley - Secretary

Charlotte WesleyCharlotte Wesley was originally drawn to studying engineering after learning about the work of Engineers Without Borders and other humanitarian engineering agencies in high school. Now in her third year studying Engineering and Arts at the University of New South Wales, Charlotte has this year stepped up as Secretary, where she will focus on assisting the NSW region and its workplace and university chapters with their internal and external communications.
