AWA WASH Roadshow

Posted by Water, Sanitation And Hygiene

Monday 20th September 2010      to     Thursday 23rd September 2010, 12:00am

Location: Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide

AWA’s WASH Specialist Network would like to invite you to its Roadshow, from 20 to 23 Sept in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. The WASH network has for objective to incite and encourage Water and Sanitation professionals to work in and/or assist developing communities. Too often WASH professionals have the necessary expertise and motivation but lack inside information and the resources that could facilitate such a career choice. The WASH network is therefore keen to provide tools, tips and lessons learned to professionals interested in working on WASH projects in developing communities. The WASH roadshow is targeting not only the young water professionals but also experienced professionals willing to know more about working in WASH, looking for career options or networking opportunities.

Long term WASH networks supporter Kathryn Harries, whom many of you know, will be our international expert, touring the cities to share “Ten things I wish I had known before working in international humanitarian response and development, including best practices, great resources and results”. Kathryn is currently Water and Environmental Sanitation Specialist for UNICEF in Jaipur, India. She is responsible for supporting the Governments water, sanitation and hygiene programs to increase child survival and development in Rajasthan.

The program also includes two local experts at each location to share practical recent WASH field experience. Local speakers already lined up include Paul Byleveld, NSW Department of Health, Manager - Water Unit; Barry J Grear, President 2007-2009 of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations; and a RedR Australia stand by Registered Member, WASH specialist (promised by RedR). We are still in the process of securing more local speakers, especially in Brisbane and Adelaide. if you or your organization is interested in a speaking role or if you know of a WASH specialist freshly returned from a field mission, let me know. This is a great opportunity for networking and sharing knowledge.
