Education Vision

EWB envisions a transformed Australia where appropriate and sustainable technology is at the forefront of every engineers mind. The Education team works with EWB members and corporate partners, schools and universities to realise this vision through a variety of new and innovative initiatives.

EWB Education aims to:

  • Nurture tomorrow's engineers by working with universities to support curriculum enhancement activities in sustainable development and appropriate technology.
  • Guide EWB members in their learning about development and involvement with EWB.
  • Train and support EWB volunteers in accordance with the competencies identified in the EWB Programs Manual.
  • Engage students in schools to raise awareness about community development, sustainable design and appropriate technology.
  • Strengthen professional capacity in sustainable development through partnerships with industry.

Key EWB Education initiatives include:

  • The EWB Challenge student design program
  • EWB Development Education Experiences in the Philippines and India
  • Member education activities
  • School outreach workshops
  • Undergraduate research projects

In 2008, 5,500 first-year engineering students will learn about sustainable development and appropriate technology through real team projects identified by program partner Resource Development International Cambodia.

Education has the power to develop and strengthen the capacity of individuals, groups, communities, organisations and countries to make informed decisions in favour of sustainable development.
