Senior Engineers: We Want You

Are the graduate engineers in your office seeming younger each year? Do you find yourself dozing off in front of Midsomer Murders on a Saturday afternoon? Are you planning a trip on the Ghan? Itching for a change? Yes, you have reached a certain age. You have become what is known as a ‘Grey Hair’. Don’t run out of the office and buy a Harley Davidson just yet. Please refrain from indulging the empty promises of Loreal Men Expert. There is a place where you and your grey hairs can run wild and free.

The oasis is known as Engineers Without Borders - an Australia wide initiative to provide engineering services to local and international communities in need. Put the wisdom of your grey hairs to good use. Skip this weekend’s wine tasting course for an energy auditing master class. Swap the model ship tinkering for ceramic water filter construction. Lend your knowledge and expertise to a worthwhile cause.

Honorary Grey Hair Bill Lawson of Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) addressed the shortage of senior engineers in Engineers Without Borders at the recent Pathways to Development Conference. The demographic of the organization largely consists of young professionals and engineering students. The passion of youth is in abundance, but the experience and knowledge of senior professionals is in short supply. Engineers Without Borders celebrates the extensive experience, management expertise and wider knowledge of the ‘Grey Hair’ engineer. The organization welcomes all senior engineers with open arms. Indeed Engineers Without Borders has saved many a ‘Grey Hair’ from the plight of mid life crisis ventures like ballroom dance classes, stamp collecting and Credence Clear Water revival tours. Experience shows that ‘Grey Hair’ activism in Engineers Without Borders not only benefits communities in need, but the ‘Grey Hairs’ themselves. Some ‘Grey Hairs’ have even described the organization as the fountain of youth.

Engineers Without Borders is a lot cheaper than a sports car and much more fulfilling than Bingo. Senior Engineers are required for consulting, project supervision and planning. To start feeling the revitalizing effects of Engineers Without Borders, please see our website (http://www.ewb.org.au/) or contact us directly by email (nsw@ewb.org.au).
