Water Facts

Posted by Annie Wormald to Marketing & Fundraising, 25th March at 10:35 AM

Are you holding an event on water and sanitation awareness and do you need some hard hitting facts to help promote the need for EWB's work in this area? Try these!

  • Only 0.5% of the world's water resources are available for man’s and ecosystems fresh water needs
  • 1.1 billion people lack access to fresh water supply and 2.6 billion people to improved sanitation
  • A person needs 50 litres of water a day for its basic needs. From the farm to its fork, the food for its daily diet will have used 3500 litres
  • Producing food for the increasing world population will require 50% more water
  • Water networks systems can waste more than 40% of water suppy through leaks and cracks
  • Each cubic meter of untreated waste water can pollute 8 cubic meters of fresh water
  • Half of the world hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering water borne diseases
  • Water-related disease kills a child every 15 seconds

Yikes, pretty grim stats! But there are encouraging signs of improvement:

  • 84% of the population in developing regions are using an improved source;
  • in 2000, 1 billion more people used such a source than in 1990.

You can also keep an eye on the World Health Organisation (WHO) for more info

Its an unimagenable world without water. Therefore, saving water is one of the most important taks for everyone in the world. The impacts of using untreated water is occuring in every country such as digested diseases or diarrhea.
For human's life, water needs to be safe and fresh, not only fresh of metal but also cleaned of bacterias. If everyone can undersatnd this fact, we can be together and protect our water resource.
Thanks Annie for this information.
