Online Fundraising - The Possibilities Are Endless

Online Fundraising is an easy way to raise funds to support EWB while doing…well just about anything! Recent participants have raised funds by swimming from one side of the bay to the other, the Run Melbourne marathon, cycling 100 laps around an oval and even shaving their head. The possibilities are endless.
Once you have decided on your activity, you simply need to register your event or challenge, ask your friends and family to sponsor you and then get training. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you raise – every little bit will mean EWB can continue to work with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life in Australia and around the world.Create your online fundraising page through Everyday Hero – it’s simple, free and effective. You don’t have to handle any money or issue any receipts!

Hi Annie
I'm Kat, one of the Kooma project tech team. Lizzy, Todd and Rob can attest to me being a Twitter uber-nerd. I was wondering - has EWB Australia considered starting a Twitter account? I think it would be a good idea and here's why:
- It's a community with a strong charity and fundraising ethic, a few examples being the "Twestival", a Twitter festival that donates all proceeds to a particular charity (the most recent Brisbane one was for youth suicide prevention, see http://brisbane.twestival.com), also "Five Cent Tweet", which will ask people to sign up and donate 5 cents per tweet over a nominated time period to a nominated charity (currently looking for recipients, see http://5ctweet.wordpress.com/2010/01/06/so-here-is-the-deal/).
- EWB Canada are doing it (see twitter.com/ewb)
- It's a good way to reach out to a niche community of interesting, progressive, engaged and intelligent people around Australia.
- True story: someone I've never met has put EWB as a benefactor in their will due to my recommendation via Twitter.
I'd love to know your thoughts. Drop me a line!
Kat :)

Hey Kat,
Sorry just got this discussion - awesome stuff huh! Now I am a complete novice when it comes to social networking sites such as Facebook & Twitter, would you be interested in writing us up a blurb on Twitter for us to include in our Feb member newsletter? To encourage people to check it out and highlight the benefits etc - if you also know of anything that we can do to make our Twitter site better or utilise our fundraising opportunities on there, please let us know! My email is a.wormald@ewb.org.au
Thanks for dropping us a line!
Annie
