Hi,
The Curriculum and Research Knowledge Hub has formed quite recently. We currently have oversight of the EWB Challenge and Undergraduate Thesis programs. In 2010 we are looking to develop a High School Outreach curriculum program and develop some plans for a higher Degree Research program. We are interested to hear any ideas that people have to further develop this program.
Cheers,
Dan.

Hi Dan, have you thought about PhD research programs in related areas. I know that Murdoch has ongoing PhD level research in development, renewable energy, waste water treatment, sustainable agriculture etc. I am sure that other Unis have similar programs. EWB could provide some guidance to the research topics, integrate field trips into volunteer programs and get some of the older members involved as co-supervisors or mentors for the candidates. Having EWB involved with doctoral research wouldn't hurt the public profile of EWB either.

Thanks Colin,
EWB are looking into a Higher Degree Research program. If your interested I providing suggestions to its formation we have set up a discussion group in the Curriculum and Research Team for Higher Degree Research (HDR). You can access this team at: http://www.ewb.org.au/explore/knowledgehubs/education/educationteam/postgrad once you are a member of the Knowledge Hub team.

If major Universities would allow even the simplest of core lectures to be videoed and would provide simple notes to be combined onto DVD's, then millions of people could learn where the internet is not available. And it need not be be major Universities.
Open Universities online who "give it away for free" can actually do so much better by releasing DVD's and CD's which will "go viral" and be pirated into all languages.
All that is needed is the "western wourld" to stop trashing its old computers and send them to developing countries to be reassemled into working units, even if you have to pedal a bike...
