EWB is dedicated to continually improving opportunities for EWB Members and the ways in which they are delivered. During the past six months we've undertaken a review of our membership framework, seeking feedback from Members and Chapters on what works and what doesn't work. We have decided to make the following changes that we feel will make a significant different to the value of EWB membership and its accessibility.
1. Membership Renewal Process
Your annual EWB membership is now due for renewal on the anniversary of your joining.
This means that if you become an EWB Member on 1 June 2012, your membership will be due for renewal each year on 1 June. This ‘rolling’ renewal system will replace the ‘February’ renewal date we’ve used in the past. It will ensure that you receive the full benefits of twelve months membership with EWB, regardless of when you join throughout the year.
2. Member Benefits
We’ve reviewed EWB Member benefits and we’re as committed as ever to creating opportunities for you to actively support EWB’s work.
EWB Members are a movement of people committed to meaningful community development through humanitarian engineering. Our Members are committed to education and inspiring cultural change in the engineering sector. Many are directly involved in supporting our community partnerships both in Australia and overseas.
EWB Member benefits include:
- Vote at the EWB Annual General Meeting
- Volunteer directly with EWB community partners in Australia and overseas
- Participate in and lead a Region or a Chapter (Member group)
- Participate in and lead an initiative in one of our Regions
- Attend National Council to participate in EWB strategic planning
- Attend EWB events, seminars and conferences
- Undertake an EWB research project
- Mentor an EWB volunteer or research student
- Login as a Member on the EWB website

2011 memberships expire on 29 February 2012. Renew now to receive access to membership benefits throughout 2012.
3. New Membership Fees
Membership fees have increased to better reflect the opportunities and support we offer Members.
Professional membership is now $100 per year. Student membership remains at $20 per year.
EWB has increased professional membership to better reflect the costs associated with Member and volunteer opportunities and support, EWB National Council and insurance. Incremental changes will be introduced in future to ensure that EWB can provide Members with access to opportunities.
4. Friends of EWB
This year, we are introducing a new pathway for individuals and organisations to support EWB’s work - “Friends of EWB”.
Friends of EWB like what we do and want to stay connected. They attend EWB events and even help out from time to time.
Friends of EWB generously contribute an annual or monthly donation to EWB. This group includes EWB’s existing annual and monthly donors and there’s no minimum or maximum donation. We encourage you to consider a monthly donation if you’re thinking of supporting our work financially for the first time. Monthly donations provide us with a predicable source of income which makes it much easier for us to resource our existing initiatives and plan for new opportunities.
