Forum: What responsibilities do Australians owe the global poor?
One Just World and the International Women's Development Agency present a (free) debate-style forum exploring such questions as: What sorts of obligations do individual Australian citizens have to the poor in countries other than their own? www.onejustworld.com.auOne Just World is a national series of free, after-work speakers’ forums aimed at involving the community in conversation and debate on key international development issues facing Australia, the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
One Just World It is a partnership between World Vision Australia, the International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA), AusAID and a University Research Centre in each state. The sort of questions they will be exploring are:
- What sorts of obligations do individual Australians have to the poor in countries other than their own?
- What sorts of obligations does the Australian government – as an example of Western governments generally – have to poor countries?
- What obligations does it have to the poor within these countries?
- Does the Australian government have an obligation that goes beyond foreign aid provided in line with Australian national interest?
