The Smiley Face of Open-source Collaboration

Open-sourced Collaboration

The OpenChar Initiative exists as an open-source website that allows interested individuals and organisations to contribute to the development of Biochar technology. This can be through submitting designs, modifying designs, solving problems, contributing case histories, providing practical guidance and operational knowledge.

The OpenChar Initiative allows engineers and other interested participants to collaborate in developing technologies that enable the implementation of biochar at a range of scales and in a range of circumstances. All technologies developed and experience gained will be open-sourced and available for anyone in the world to access, with the only provision being that all lessons-learnt are provided back to the OpenChar community.

The Smiley Fae of Open-Source Collaboration shows more clearly the idea behind Open-Source Collaboration.

By navigating through the applications side of this website users will be able to choose the most appropriate technology for their application. From here they are linked to the technology side of the Website. This will have various summaries, design tools, and discussions underlying key areas of research for that specific technology.
The user can then have a basis for design of equipment for producing biochar for their specific application. They then fabricate and test the design. Two enable design progression and collaborative design all that OpenChar asks is that they feed any significant new test results back into standard databases of information found in the Material Properties  section and Technology Section of the website. These two sections will be referenced extensively by the applications side.
