Exciting position researching ceramic water filters
EWB's role in expanding the production and distribution of ceramic water filters around the world is growing, with a new Volunteer Position currently being advertised. This role is focused on further developing the technical knowledge of the filters operation and methods of production. The volunteer will work closely with a Dutch research consortium and another EWB volunteer on site as well as other RDIC staff.

Thank you Rob. This is a very exciting opportunity indeed and one that I would very much like to become involved with this year. Most studies on the subject show that the (colloidal silver impregnated) ceramic filters are > 99 % successful at removing bacteria under laboratory testing conditions. This statistic is quite impressive for such a simple, yet ingenious filter! It so happens that I had the opportunity to test the performance of these ceramic filters at the University of Canterbury Environmental Laboratory (in Christchurch, New Zealand) as a full-year research project last year, using some clay pots manufactured at the RDIC's filter factory. Our lab. results did not show the consistently high bacteria removal that the literature research suggested. It would be interesting to compare this with the results of your own research.

Hi Isabelle, thanks for getting in touch. I'd be happy to compare and discuss results, and it would be great to have you further involved. Perhaps you could email me at rob@rdic.org?
Regards,
Rob
