The Story So Far...
A small group of engineers from Melbourne were inspired to do something a little different with their engineering. After one of them tried to organise some overseas development work, they noticed that there was a void. Inexperienced volunteers could organise to join a development group and do unskilled work and experienced engineers were highly sought after to be involved in serious and complicated engineering development work. Young engineers who wanted to get engineering experience working in developing communities had almost no structured avenue to get involved.
These Melbourne engineers decided that Australia needed a framework through which many more engineers and students could get involved. Such an organisation would be more than just an overseas placement network, it would be a community of like-minded people who were inspired to learn about the issues facing the world and were prepared to get out there and work to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged people.
The small group of founders has since grown into a much larger group of dedicated EWB'ers organising the many members and chapters of EWB and an exciting future of events, education, placements and projects.
EWB is a place for sharing knowledge and experience between communities, organisations and individuals. It is also a place for meeting people, having fun and making a difference.
